| The American Chiropractic Association's
Council on Occupational Health (ACACOH), a professional nonprofit
organization, was established in 1991 to fulfill its mission of "supporting
the Doctor of Chiropractic's fundamental contribution to their community
by fostering public health and safety through education, ergonomics, optimal
clinical management and other measures." Occupational Safety & Health is a specialty area of focus for many DCs. Members of the ACACOH are located throughout the nation. Many have completed additional (postgraduate) education in occupational health & applied ergonomics. Upon successful completion of the entire three year program and accompanying exam processes, DCs may be awarded Diplomate status in the American Chiropractic Board on Occupational Health (ACBOH), a credentialing body of the ACACOH. The ACACOH exists to: positively effect political security for the profession, promote the American Chiropractic Association, promote postgraduate and specialized education for the profession, to evaluate, recognize and promote safe ergonomic products, and to present at national and regional conferences related to public and workplace health and safety. POSITION STATEMENT: The ACACOH is a professional organization representing the Chiropractic profession in the specialty of Occupational Health. Its purpose is to promote the Doctor of Chiropractic by promoting the profession as a whole, while providing a vital contribution to society through this service. |

• This year, more than 19 million American adults (9.5% of the population) will suffer from depression (National Inst. of Mental Health; The Effects of Depression in the Workplace).
• There is compelling evidence from studies performed by large corporations and insurance companies that most illnesses that employers spend dollars on, could in fact be prevented through programs at work that address health and wellness. Doctors of Chiropractic are preventive care providers for whole-person health - body, mind and spirit. Wellness is taught by chiropractic colleges as separate courses on such topics as lifestyles, nutrition, rehabilitative exercise, stress management, suicide prevention, meridian therapy, and other topics.
